Our double bill features two American artists’ take on Igor Stravinsky’s whimsical, neoclassical theatre piece The Soldier’s Tale, and two sinister parables brimming with foxtrots, rags, marches and a healthy dose of Dixieland.

Literary juggernaut and famed pacifist, Kurt Vonnegut, audaciously reimagines Igor Stravinsky’s chamber work into a vexing story of American wartime deserters: 40,000 soldiers fled the front lines of WWII, one was tried and executed - this is his story.

Jazz icon Wynton Marsalis, using the same instrumentation and structure as Stravinsky, spins The Soldier’s Tale into a Faustian allegory about a young, upstart musician who strikes up a deal with the devil, biting off more than she can chew...
