Met Star Elizabeth Futral and two time Grammy nominee Todd Palmer will open our season with a World Premiere at an Olympic pool transformed into the River Styx. LBO presents Ricky Ian Gordon’s Orpheus & Euridice, an imaginative retelling of the ancient greek myth. |
Strauss Meets Frankenstein!!
Michael York, film and stage star in a unique double-bill. He will first perform the haunting tale of thwarted love, Enoch Arden, a melodrama set to the music of Richard Strauss. Then, in , York, as a singing narrator, portrays comic-strip heroes and familiar film characters - from Frankenstein to Superman. |
Frederica Von Stade - Recital
Frederica Von Stade will make her exclusive L.A. appearance in a recital of 20th century French and American works. Von Stade is well-known to audiences and critics as one of the world’s most beloved mezzo-sopranos. She will be accompanied by celebrated composer and pianist Jake Heggie (Dead Man Walking). |
The Diary of Anne Frank
Long Beach Opera will reprise its critically acclaimed 2007 production of Grigori Frid’s The Diary of Anne Frank staged in local parking garages. Rising star Ani Maldjian will again sing the role of Anne; Laura Hillman will return to add her Holocaust memories to the opera, creating a bridge from the past to the present. |
